  Padmini wins 4th successive National Premier title

Odisha and PSPB International Master Padmini Rout won her 4th successive title in the National Women Premier Chess Championship, the 44th edition of which was held at Surat Tennis Club, Surat (Gujarat) from Nov 25 to Dec 6, 2017.

Bhubaneswar lass Padmini scored 7.5 points out of a possible 11 to take home the top prize of Rs 1,75,000. She had won her previous three Premier National titles at Sangli (2014), Kolkata (2015) and New Delhi (2016).

Padmini won seven games, beating Bala Kannamma P, WGM Swati Ghate, WGM Kiran Manisha Mohanty, WIM PV Nandhidhaa, Srishti Pandey, WIM Sakshi Chitlange; drew three against WGM Soumya Swaminathan, Samriddhaa Ghosh, WGM Bhakti Kulkarni and lost two against WGM Meenakshi Subbaraman and WGM Mary Ann Gomes.

 

Bhakti Kulkarni of Air India, Mary Ann Gomes of PSPB and Soumya Swaminathan of PSPB all finished second, third and fourth respectively with seven points each. Top 12 players of the country participated in the tournament. Odisha and LIC WGM Kirnan Manisha Mohanty finished 11th with 3.5 points.

FINAL RANKINGS: 1. Padmini Rout (7.5); 2-4. Bhakti Kulkarni, Mary Ann Gomes and Soumya Swaminathan (7 each); 5. S Meenakshi (6.5); 6-7. PV Nandhidhaa and Swati Ghate (6 each); 8-9. Sakshi Chitlange and P Bala Kannamma (4.5 each); 10-11. Samriddhaa Ghosh and Kiran Manisha Mohanty (3.5 each); 12. Srishti Pandey (3).
