  Orissa rejoice for Pragyan Ojha
30 May 2008

Orissa expressed its happyness and also felt proud on Friday for the inclusion of left-arm spinner Pragyan Ojha in Team Indian for the ensuing tri-series in Bangladesh and the Asia Cup in Pakistan. Though Ojha is known as a promising cricketer of Hyderabad, he originally belongs to Orissa. Born and brought up Bhubaneswar, he went to Hyderabad to pursue studies there. ``I came over here when I was studying in standard eighth,`` Ojha said over telephone from Hyderabad. ``But before that I learnt the basics of the game at Saheed Sporting Club in Bhubaneswar,`` he revealed. ``I played many junior tournaments for the club and the city from 1996 to 2000. I fondly remember those years and I am trying to go to Bhubaneswar for a day before our tour to Bangladesh,`` he said.

Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik congratulated Ojha for his selection and wished him success in the coming tour. Officials and players of Saheed Sporting club, led by their secretary Pankaj Patanik, celebrated the occasion by distributing sweets. Ojha is set to become the second cricketer of Saheed Sporting Club to become an international. Earlier, swing bowler Debasis Mohanty made the club and the State proud by playing Test and ODIs. Besides the two internationals, the club has the credit of producing over a dozen first class cricketers.
