  Odisha regain title in All-India Postal Hockey Tournament

Host Odisha regained the all-Indian Postal hockey title after a gap of four years, defeating last three years` champions Karnataka 2-0 in the final in the 28th edition of the tournament at Kalinga Stadium Hockey Complex here today.

This was the third title triumph for Odisha, who won their previous two titles in 2009 and 2010. Tamil Nadu finished third in the tournament, defeating Uttar Pradesh 6-0. Odisha`s David Dungdung and Dillip Toppo were adjudged as the bast player and best scorer of the tournament.
 

Odisha High Court Justice Indrajit Mohanty handed over the trophy at the closing function. Unlike conventional chief guests, who waste time talking irrevalent things, Justice Mohanty impressed one and all with his speech, which reflected his deep knowledge about sports and fairplay.

Hockey Odisha secretary Pratap Satpathy, Odisha Circle Chief Postmaster General Tilak De and Postal Services Director (HQs) Pawan Kumar Singh were present on the occasion.

The five-day tournament, featuring six states, was earlier inaugurated by hockey Olympian and Rajya Sabha Member Dilip Tirkey. For the first time, the tournament took place on synthetic turf and under lights.
RESULTS:
Oct 14 (Match No 1): Odisha (Rajen Kandulana 12, 24, 29, 50, 59; David Dungdung 46, 58; Binay Bakhala 14) beat Punjab (Bhagawan Singh 31) 8-1.
Oct 14 (Match No 2): Utter Pradesh (PS Bhandari 28, 33; Arvind Yadav 16, Jagadish Shelet 45, Mohammad Asad 55) beat Mandhya Pradesh (Mohammad Zuber 27, 52; Asad Kamal 48) 6-3.
Oct 15 (Match No 3): Karnataka (HR Ramesh 11th, 43rd; Vinaya Bijwad 22nd) beat Uttar Pradesh 3-0.
Oct 15 (Match No 4): Tamil Nadu (Sudarshan 12th, 36th; J Dinesh Kumar 16th, E Rajan 31st) beat Punjab (Lakhwinder Singh 37th, 57th; Dharampal Singh 41st) 4-3.
Oct 16 (Match No 5): Karnataka (BG Tharnath 1st, HT Ramesh 2nd, Naglis Swamy 25th, MK Nagraj 29th) beat Madhya Pradesh 4-0.
Oct 16 (Match No 6): Odisha (Rajin Kandulana 18th, 28th, 43rd; David Dungdung 37th, Nuel Tirkey 39th) beat Tamil Nadu (Sudarshan 8 th, Kamla Kanan 45th) 5-2.
Oct 17 (Match No 7, 1st semifinal): Karnataka (Naveen Kumar 13th) beat Tamil Nadu (Kamal Kannan 19th) 4-1 in penalty shoot out.
Oct 17 (Match No 8, 2nd semifinal): Odisha (Jitendra Yadav 8th, 20th; Rajen Kandulna 3rd, Dharam Das Bhengra 36th, David Dungdung 41st, Dilip Toppo 54th) beat Uttar Pradesh 6-0.
Oct 18 (Match No 9, for 3rd place): Tamil Nadu beat Uttar Pradesh 6-0.
Oct 18 (Match No 10, Final): Odisha (Binay Baxla 19th, Dillip Toppo 30th) beat Karnataka 2-0.
