A six-member Orissa team, represinting Indian Gateball Union, returned home this week after winning a bronze medal in the Australian Open International Gateball Tournament at Broadwater, Australia.

The squad, comprising Ranjan Kumar Mishra (captain), Sanjay Pattanayak, Amitat Pani, Bidhu Bhusan Satpathy, Ranjan Kuman Nanda and Subhransu Patnaik, beat Canbera 15-8 to finish third in the three-nation tournament.

Earlier in the league round, the Orissa squad registered four wins and suffered two defeats. They beat Southport-2 10-9, Caloundra 11-11 (in tie-breaker), eventual champion Ipswich 14-6, Rockhampton 15-8 but lost to East Brisbane 7-9, McIlwrath White 9-11.
