Wicketkeeper-batsman Haladhar Das` flambuyoant century and a brace by swing bowler Debasis Mohanty put Orissa in a commanding position on the second day of their seventh and last round Ranji Trophy Super League (Group-A) match against Himachal Pradesh at Dharamsala today.
Das slammed 144 (155 balls, 20x4, 6x3), his second first class ton to enable Orissa post a healthy total of 316 in reply to host Himachal’s meager first innings total of 125. After conceding a lead of 191 runs, the home side struggled at 47 for two in the second innings when stumps were drawn for the day. Bowling spearhead Mohanty bagged both the wickets, dismissing openers B Thakkar and H Dogra cheaply.
Earlier, resuming their first innings at 55 for two, Orissa compiled the 300 plus total thanks to a half century by Niranjan Behera (53 off 144 balls, 9x4) and of cours, the sparkling century by Das, All-rounder Alok Sahu contributed a breezy 29 and added 71 runs for the seventh wicket with Das. Mohinderraj Sharma was the most successful bowler for Himachal Pradesh, bagging five wickets for 102 runs.
