  Cuttack League titles go to Police, CRRI

Orissa Police and Central Rice Research Institute (CRRI) won the First and Second Division titles respectively in the Cuttack Football League, which concluded at Barabati Stadium here today. In the finals, Orissa Police defeated Chand Club 4-2 via tie-breaker, while CRRI came rallied from 0-1 down to beat Kishore Club 2-1.

After play in the regulation time ended goalless, Siddharth Pruseth, Abhimanyu Pandey, Hrushikesh Behera and Sunil successfully converted four penalty kicks for the cops, while Chand Club scored twice through Prakash Jena and Sanjit Panna. Earlier, Kishore Club took the lead when Avij Khan struck in the 28th minute.

 

But two beautiful goals by Ramesh Murmu (38th) and Prakash Singh (56th) helped CRRI win the match and retain the title. Earlier in the First Division semifinals, Chand Club edged out defending champions State Sports Hostel 2-1, while Orissa Police overcame crushed Jaydurga Club 3-1.

Higher Education Minister Devi Mishra, Barabati MLA Debasish Samantaray, Orissa Olympic Association secretary Asirbad Behera and Orissa Football Association secretary in-charge M A Alam gave away the trophies at the closing function.
