HOST: Goa Olympic Association, under the auspices of Indian Olympic Association

DESCRIPTION:
*     The National Games were first held in Lahore, undivided India, in 1924 and were known as the Indian Olympic Games until 1938.
*     This will be the first time Goa will host the National Games.
*     Moga, an Indian Bison, is the mascot of the upcoming Games.
*     The 37th edition would feature 43 sports disciplines and over 10,000 competitors.
*     Last year, over 7,000 athletes featured in 36 sports.
*     Kho Kho, yogasana and mallakhamb made their National Games debut.
*     The National Games 2023 will mark the debut of several new sports, including beach football, roll ball, golf, sepaktakraw, sqay martial arts, kalliyarapattu and pencak silat.
*     Additionally, yachting and taekwondo are making a return after their exclusion during the last edition.
*     Traditional sports lagori and gatka have been included as demonstration sports.
*     Cycling and golf, however, will be held in New Delhi.
*     Services Sports Control Board became the National Games champions in Gujarat last year with 128 medals, including 61 golds.
*     Maharashtra followed with 140 medals which included 39 gold medals, narrowly ahead of Haryana which bagged 116 medals including 38 gold.
*     Odisha finished 17th in the 36th National Games with a total of 26 medals, which included 4 gold, 11 silver and 11 bronze.
*     Odisha Basketball Association Secretary Ashok Sahu has been named as the Chef-de-mission of the Odisha contingent for the 37th National Games.
