NATIONAL:
*     Emerged individual all-round champion, while representing Odisha in the Senior National Gymnastics Championship, held at J N Indoor Stadium, Cuttack in 1987.
*     Became National champion in the year 1982.
*     Bagged four gold, two silver and one bronze medals in his very first National meet.


INTERNATIONAL:
*     Represented India in six international meets at Mosco, Romania, Rega, Teheran and Seoul.
*     Represented India in New Delhi Asian Games in 1982.


OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
*     Joined BJP after retiring as DIG at CRPF.
*     Recruited in CRPF as a Sub-inspector in 1978.
*     His father Chintaharan Shil was a tailor, who had to maintain a family of five members.
*     In the year 1976, coach Radharaman Das introduced Balaram to gymnastics when the 14-year-old boys was studying in Class VII at Ramthakur Boys School.
