Odisha youth Debasis Sahoo entered into the highly competitive world professional tennis circuit by securing his first ATP point at the ITF World Tennis Tour M15 Mens Future Tournament, which is being held in Hurghada, Egypt from 14 to 20 September 2026. Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) is the governing body of the mens professional tennis circuits. 

The 20-year-old Debasis achieved the feat by reaching the second round in the singles main draw of the Egypt tournament. He beat fellow Indian Prasad Ingale 6-3, 6-4 in the first round on September 16. But in the second round, the Odisha player lost to second seed Millen Hurrion (Great Britain) 0-6, 2-6.

Debasis, who pursues his BA degree at KIIT University, Bhubaneswar, advanced to the main draw by winning three matches in the qualifying competition. He defeated Georgios Mitalas (Greece) 6-3, 3-6, 10-7; Srikar Doni (India) 6-3, 6-2 and Cristian Campese (Italy) 6-1, 6-2.

He became the fourth tennis player from Odisha to earn an ATP point. The other three are: Chinmay Pradhan, Ansu Kumar Bhuyan and Kabir Hans. With the notable success at the Egypt Future Tournament, Debasis has achieved a career-best ITF singles rankings of 1351.
