  Asia Rugby U-18 Sevens: Indian boys, girls finish sixth

Both the Indian boys and girls teams finished sixth in the Asia Rugby Emirates U-18 Sevens Championship, which was held in Qingdao, China on 5 and 6 September 2026. United Arab Emirates boys emerged champions, defeating Hong Kong China 26-0 in the final. China girls retained the title, beating Hong Kong China 34-5 in the summit clash.

Indian boys settled for the sixth position after losing to Sri Lanka 7-34 in a classification match. Earlier Indian boys suffered three defeats at the league stage, losing to Malaysia 7-34, Hong Kong China 7-52 and Sri Lanka 0-12. They registered their only win by prevailing over Chinese Taipei 24-10.

 

Indian girls claimed sixth place after losing to United Arab Emirates 7-33 in a classification match. Earlier at the league stage, Indian girls lost to Malaysia 12-38, beat United Arab Emirates 29-12, lost to Hong Kong China 19-22 and beat Sri Lanka 41-0.

Three girls and two boys from Odisha represented the Indian teams. They were: Anita Murmu, Khameswari Majhi, Sumitra Murmu (girls) and Rahul Majhi, Eswar Pujari (boys). Among the five, Anita, Khameswari, Rahul and Eswar are students of Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS), Bhubaneswar. Sumitra belongs to Future Star Sports Academy, Mayurbhanj.
