The quest for a medal continued to prove abortive for Odisha competitors at the Para Fencing World Cup for the second successive day as three among five of them, including one woman, made early exit in respective events at Eastern National Sports Training Center in Pattaya City, Thailand today.

It may be recalled that six para-fencers from Odisha, including five who are competing at the ongoing World Cup, had reaped a rich harvest of 11 medals (6 gold, 3 silver, 2 bronze) in the Commonwealth Fencing Championship, held in Lagos, Nigeria from 11 to 14 August 2026.

The five Odisha para fencers participating in the World Cup, which is an open competition, are: Rakhal Kumar Sethy, Venkateshwar Ramesh Rao, Pabitra Sahu, Omm Prakash Behera and Kumari Malti Panaure.

PERFORMANCE OF ODISHA PARA FENCERS (DAY-2):

Mens Sabre (Category A):

Rakhal Kumar Sethy: Competed directly in the Table of 64, where he got a bye and then lost to Saichun Zhong (China) 6-15 and finished 17th among 50 competitors.

Pabitra Sahu: Won two and lost three matches at the pool stage to advance to the Table of 64, where he lost to Ilia Chernyshov (NPA) 9-15 and 41st among 50 competitors.

Womens Foil (Category A):

Kumari Malti Panaure: Won one match and lost four at the pool stage to advance to the Table of 64, where she got a bye in the first round and then lost to Hyo Kyeong Kwon 2-15 in Table-32. Eventually finished 31st among 39 competitors.
