  U-18 Womens Hockey Asia Cup: India secure bronze medal

Indian Under-18 Women Hockey Team, featuring four players from Odisha, won the bronze medal in the 6th U-18 Womens Hockey Asia Cup, defeating Korea 3-0 in the third/fourth place match at Kawasaki Heavy Industries Hockey Stadium in Kakamigahara, Japan on 6 June 2026. China won the gold, beating Japan 2-1 in the title clash.

This was the fourth medal and third bronze for India at the U-18 Womens Asia Cup. India won the gold in the inaugural edition in 2000 (Kowloon, Hong Kong) and other two bronze in 2011 and 2016 (both in Bangkok, Thailand).

India won all three of their league matches in Pool-A to qualify for the semifinals, where they went down to China in shootout after holding their opponents to a 2-2 draw in the regulation time.

 

The Indian team was led by Odisha forward Sweety Kujur, who is a trainee of Sports Hostel Rourkela. Other three Odisha players in the 18-member team were: Rubina Baxla, Kiran Ekka and Priyanka Minz, and all three belong to Sports Hostel Sundargarh.

Hockey India announced a cash award of Rs 1 lakh for each player of the bronze medal winning team, and Rs 50,000 for each member of the support staff. India forward Nausheen Naz bagged the award as the top scorer with 12 goals.

30 May 2026 (Pool-A League): India (Nousheen Naz 19-PC, 28-FG) beat Malaysia (Nur Azli 41-FG) 2-1. PoM: Nousheen Naz.

31 May 2026 (Pool-A League): India (Nousheen Naz 4-PS, Shruti Kumari 21-FG, Kiran Ekka 43-PC) beat Korea (Ryu Gyeongmin 41-FG) 3-1. PoM: Kiran Ekka.

3 June 2026 (Pool-A League): India (Sweety Kujur 2-FG, 24-FG, 38-FG, 45-FG, Nousheen Naz 8-FG, 13-FG, 17-FG, 18-FG, 40-FG, 52-FG, 58-FG, Geethasri Nammi 13-FG, 28-FG, 47-FG, 48-FG, 60-FG, Priyanka Minz 22-FG, 37-PC, 53-FG, Diya 27-FG, Nancy Saroha 36-FG, Shruti Kumari 40-FG, Pushpa Manjhi 47-FG, Rashmeen Kaur 47-FG, Sandeepa Kumari 51-FG) beat Singapore 25-0. 5 June 2026 (Semifinal): India (Nousheen Naz 3-FG, Kiran Ekka 54-PC) drew with China (Li ZeYan 24-FG, Yuzheng Zhang 48-PC) 2-2. Shootout: India (Sandeepa Kumari) lost to China (TongTong Lu, Chen Ge, Jiaxin Guo) 1-3. PoM: Xue Liu (China).

6 June 2026 (Bronze medal): India (Sandeepa Kumari 2-FG, Sweety Kujur 16-FG, Nousheen Naz 33-FG) beat Korea 3-0. PoM: Sandeepa Kumari.
