  National U-11 Chess: Sattwik wins silver medal for Odisha

Odisha prodigy Sattwik Swain won the silver medal in the open category of the 39th National U-11 Chess Championships, which concluded at URWA Indoor Stadium in Mangaluru, Karnataka today. He finished runner-up with 9.5 points out of a possible 11.

Candidate Master (CM) Sattwik won nine games, drew one and lost one to receive a cash prize of Rs 60,000. FM Sarbartho Mani (West Bengal) and CM Advik Amit Agrawal (Maharashtra) claimed the gold and bronze medal with 10.5 and nine points respectively.

 

This was the second National medal for 10-year-old Sattwik, who bagged the gold medal in the open category of the 38th National U-9 Chess Championship last year in Gurugram, Haryana.

Student of DAV Public School, Chandrasekharpur, Bhubaneswar, Sattwik also has the reputation of winning seven international medals so far. The seven medals include two silver and five bronze.

Besides the silver medal at the National U-11 Championship, Sattwik has gained 54 FIDE rating points. With the addition of the sizable points, his overall rating has crossed the 2000 mark.
