  Inter-Dist Women T20 Cricket: Balangir crowned champions

Balangir emerged champions in the OCA Inter-District Womens T20 Cricket Tournament, defeating Bhubaneswar by six wickets in the final at Barabati Stadium, Cuttack today. The champion team received a prize of Rs 3 lakh, while runners-up Bhubaneswar took home Rs 2 lakh.

Put into bat by Balangir skipper Madhuri Meheta, Bhubaneswar compiled a modest total of 106 for four. Stumper Pragyan Paramita Mohanty was the top scorer with a 46-ball 52, while GM Alakananda contributed an unbeaten 32.

In reply, Balangir overhauled the target in 17.5 overs, losing four wickets in the process. Former India batter Madhuri Meheta led the chase with a 45-ball 46, while Sarita Meher hit an unbeaten 24.

 

The tournament, which commenced on April 16, featured 30 teams and a total of 82
matches. The closing ceremony was held in the presence of Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) joint-secretary Prabhat Bhol and members Dhiren Pallai, Sushanta Kumar Mohanty and Nirban Roy.
