Odisha rising star Tanvi Patri won the girls singles gold medal in the Yonex-Sunrise All India Junior Ranking Badminton Tournament at Heartfulness Gopichand Badminton Academy in Hyderabad today. This was the first title triumph of the year 2026 for 14-year-old Tanvi, who upset second seed Tanvi Reddy Andluri in the final 23-21, 21-16.
Seeded seventh, Tanvi won six matches in a row to clinch the title. She eliminated as many as three seeded opponents in the week-long tournament. Flying high after winning the womens singles silver medal at the 87th Senior Nation Championship in Vijayawada two week ago, Tanvi started her 2026 campaign with a 21-11, 21-12 win over Prasiddhi Gupta (Delhi) in Round 64.
The Odisha shuttler prevailed over Vijaya Lakshmi Boddu (Andhra Pradesh) 21-11, 21-9 and Laksha D (Tamil Nadu) 21-14, 21-5 in the next two matches to storm in the quarterfinals, where she stunned top seed Shaina Manimuthu (Karnataka) 21-19, 21-14.
Tanvi faced a stiff fight against third seed Parul Choudhary (Rajasthan) in the semifinals, where she dominated the third and final game to win the match 21-18, 18-21, 21-12.
