  National School Games: Odisha archers overall runners-up

Student athletes made Odisha proud by finishing overall runners-up with a total of five medals in the archery competition of the 69th National School Games 2025-26, which was organised by School Games Federation of India (SGFI) at Mega Sports Complex, Khel Gaon in Ranchi, Jharkhand from 6 to 10 January 2026.

The five medals featured three gold, one silver and one bronze. Odisha girls recurve team, consisting of Sunita Naik, Sabitri Patra and Tenisha Meher, secured the fifth medal with a silver today. Sunita also bagged one bronze medal in girls recurve Olympic round yesterday.

 

According to Odisha Archery Association secretary Sampurnananda Das, Rohit Kumar Marndi was the most successful Odisha archer, capturing all three gold medals. Class-X student of UPG Government High School, Baripada, Rohit claimed one gold medal each in boys Indian round and Olympics elimination round. He shared the other gold with KISS girl student Reshma Mallick in the mixed team elimination round.

As many as 18 student archers, including seven boys and 11 girls, represented Odisha, under the banner of Odisha State School Sports Organisation. The Odisha squad was accompanied by four coaches (Sumuray Kudada, Shahela Shahin, Surya Paleya, Sangeeta Soren) and two managers (Mahendra Kalser, Yashobanta Mahanta).
