Odisha sprinter Dondapati Mrutyam Jayaram clinched a creditable double by winning both the mens 100m and 200m gold medals in the 5th Indian Open U23 Athletics Competition, which was held at JN Stadium in Hanamkonda, Warangal (Telangana) from 16 to 18 October 2025.
Jayaram bagged 100m gold with a time of 10.49 seconds on the opening day. He completed the double on the final day, winning the 200m event, clocking his personal best time of 21.10 seconds. A 21-member Odisha squad bagged a total of five medals in this three-day competition. The five medals consisted of two gold, two silver and one bronze.
Laxmipriya Kishan secured one silver medal in the women 1500m event with a time of 4 minutes 31.97 seconds, while Susmita Tigga won the other silver medal in womens 3000m steeplechase, clocking 10 minutes and 44.23 seconds. Mary Mukta Soreng claimed one bronze medal in womens triple jump with an effort of 12.65 metres.
