Bargarh sprinter Pratik Maharana made Odisha proud by winning the first gold medal for the host State on the fourth and penultimate day of the 40th National Junior Athletics Championships at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar today. Pratik clinched the gold medal in U-20 mens 200m run with a meet record (MR), clocking 21.24 seconds.
This was the second medal for Pratik in the ongoing championship and he also achieved the U-20 World Championship qualifying mark of 21.26 seconds. A disciple of athletics coach Siba Mishra, Pratik will represent India in the World Athletics U-20 Championships, scheduled to be held in Eugene, USA from 5 to 9 August 2026.
