  SM Ali Trophy: Resurgent Odisha register hat-trick of wins

Superb allround performance by captain Biplab Samantray and an unbeaten half-century by stumper Aashirwad Swain powered Odisha to a 73-run win over Assam in their elite Group-A match of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy T20 Tournament at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh today.

This was the third successive win in six matches for the resurgent Odisha senior men team, who won their last two matches against Chhattisgarh and Railways. Interestingly before achieving a hat-trick of wins, Odisha suffered a hat-trick of defeats, losing to Kerala, Andhra and Vidarbha.

Leading from the front against Assam, Samantray hit a 32-ball unbeaten 43 and followed it with an incredible haul of three wickets in one over. However, stumper-batter Swain won the player of the match award for scoring an unbeaten 51 off 28 balls.
 

In reply to a healthy total of 171 for four by Odisha, Assam were bundled out for 98. Anil Parida made his T20 debut for Odisha in this match. Odisha will play their seventh and last league match against Mumbai on December 8.
