  National Road Cycling: Swasti secures second silver

Odisha cycling role-model Swasti Singh secured the silver medal in women elite 30km criterium race at the 30th National Road Cycling Championship, which concluded in Sambalpur, Odisha today. Soumya Antapur (Railways) and Ganga Dandin (Karnataka) won the gold and bronze medals respectively.

This was the second medal for Odisha international Swasti, who also bagged the silver medal in the 30km individual time trial event four days back. Host Odisha won a total of three medals in the five-day National championship. Besides the double silver by Swasti, the state youth girls team, featuring Sasmita Panda, Purbayee Mohanty and Sneha Das claimed one bronze medal in 20km team time trial three days ago.

Speaking of her performance at the Sambalpur National Championship, Rourkela pedaler Swasti said: “I participated in two events and won silver in both. I am happy about my efforts and the consistency in winning medals.”

“During the previous Road National in Puri, I won one gold. This time in Sambalpur I secured two silver medals. I am happy to be able to work with sincerity and dedication,” added Swasti, whose total number of National medals reached 30 (12 gold, 10 silver, 8 bronze).
