Odisha ace Swasti Singh won the first medal for the host state, securing the silver in women elite 30km individual time trial event of the 30th National Road Cycling Championships, which commenced in Sambalpur today. She finished second among 32 competitors, clocking 45 minutes and 48.294 seconds.
Harshita Jakhar (Rajasthan) won the gold medal with a time of 45:29.148, while Pooja Danole (Maharashtra) claimed the bronze medal, clocking 46:10.772. Urmila Behera, the other Odisha competitor in the fray, secured the 23rd position with a time of 59:01.035.
This was the first-ever medal in 30km individual time trial (ITT) for Swasti, whose total number of National medals became 29, including 12 gold, nine silver and eight bronze. She also has the reputation of bagging four international medals, including one gold for India.
While expressing happiness, Swasti credited the medal to her first coach Late Sushil Das. “Sushil sir always wanted me to win a medal in the 30km ITT. But I never had the opportunity to stand on the podium. Now when he is no more, I did it,” said Swasti, paying tribute to her coach, who passed away in September this year.
The 30th Senior, Junior and Sub-junior National Road Cycling Championships are being organised by Odisha Cycling Association, under the auspices of Cycling Federation of India from 2 to 6 December 2025.
