  Odisha Govt provides employment to 160 sportspersons

Odisha Government today announced the recruitment of 160 meritorious sportsperson including 81 athletes in Odisha Police at the Nijukti Parba ceremony held in Bhubaneswar. The sportspersons have been inducted into various government departments, spanning from the Steel & Mining Department to Revenue and Disaster Management, Higher Education, and School and Mass Education.

The selected athletes represent a diverse array of sporting disciplines, ranging from hockey, weightlifting, and bodybuilding to shooting, karate, rugby, and more. This inclusive selection also embraces para-sports, highlighting commitment of the State government to nurturing talent across a wide spectrum of athletic endeavours. The largest recruitment of meritorious sportspersons was in the category of para-sports with 35 para-athletes getting their appointment letters today.

 

The athletes included those who succeeded at the international and national level as well. Amongst the athletes recruited were Asian Games medallist and javelin star, Kishore Kumar Jena, Soundarya Kumar Pradhan, who won gold and silver in blind chess at the Asian Para Games, woman cycling international Swasti Singh and blind cricketer Pankaj Bhue.

Expressing his gratitude to the government of Odisha, Soundarya Kumar Pradhan said, “There are a lot of ups and down in the life of an athlete, a job from the government is not only a matter of pride but also provides an athlete with a sense of security. I am sure this along with a lot of initiatives by the Government of Odisha will inspire many athletes across Odisha and their families to encourage sports."
