  Natl Weightlifting: Odisha win 3 gold, 6 silver, 5 bronze

Odisha won one gold, one silver and one bronze medal today to increase its total to 14 in the ongoing IWLF National Weightlifting Championship at Rajiv Gandhi University, Itanagar (Arunachal Pradesh). The 14 medals include three gold, six silver and five bronze.

Suresh Kumar Yadav bagged the inter-state gold and overall bronze in senior men 96 kg category, while Punit secured the silver in junior men 96 kg weight class. Suresh and Punit train at Army Sports Centre (ASI), Pune and Khelo India Academy, Utkal Karate School, Bhubaneswar respectively.

 

Earlier, Sneha Soren, from Weightlifting HPC, became the first multiple medal winner for Odisha, grabbing inter-state gold and overall silver in senior women 55 kg group. Jyoshna Sabar, also a cadet of Weightlifting HPC, captured the first gold for Odisha in youth girls 40 kg category.

Other four silver medals for Odisha were claimed by Priteesmita Bhoi (Weightlifting HPC, Dhenkanal Sub-Centre), Mina Santa-A (Odisha Weightlifting HPC), Sadananda Bariha (Weightlifting HPC) and Kuldeep Sahu (Army Sports Institute, Pune).

Harshavardhan Sahu (ASI, Pune), Mina Singh (Sports Hostel, Bhubaneswar), Swayamjit Prasad Sahu (Odisha Weightlifting HPC) and Hrudananda Das Bhoi (Weightlifting HPC, Dhenkanal Sub-Centre) secured the other four bronze medals for Odisha.

Gold (Senior women Inter-State 55 kg): Sneha Soren, Snatch 82 kg, C&J 107 kg, Total 189 kg (31 December 2023).
Gold (Senior Men Inter-State 96 kg): Suresh Kumar Yadav, Snatch 133 kg, C&J 178 kg, Total 311 kg (4 January 2024).

Silver (Youth girls 40 kg): Priteesmita Bhoi, Snatch 55 kg, C&J 67 kg, Total 122 kg (29 December 2023).
Silver (Youth boys 61 kg): Sadananda Bariha, Snatch 105 kg, C&J 128 kg, Total 223 kg (30 December 2023).
Silver (Senior women overall 55 kg): Sneha Soren, Snatch 82 kg, C&J 107 kg, Total 189 kg (31 December 2023).
Silver (Youth girls 55 kg): Mina Santa-A, Snatch 74 kg, C&J 94 kg, Total 168 kg (31 December 2023).
Silver (Junior men 73 kg): Kuldeep Sahu, Snatch 120 kg, C&J 152 kg, Total 272 kg (1 January 2024).
Silver (Junior Men 96 kg): Punit Kumar Sahu, Snatch 125 kg, C&J 177 kg, Total 302 kg (4 January 2024).

Bronze (Youth boys 49 kg): Harshavardhan Sahu, Snatch 75 kg, C&J 102 kg, Total 177 kg (29 December 2023).
Bronze (Youth girls 49 kg): Mina Singh, Snatch 64 kg, C&J 85 kg, Total 149 kg (30 December 2023).
Bronze (Youth boys 73 kg): Swayamjit Prasad Sahu, Snatch 112 kg, C&J 137 kg, Total 249 kg (1 January 2024).
Bronze (Youth boys 81 kg): Hrudananda Das, Snatch 125 kg, C&J 151 kg, Total 277 kg (2 January 2024).
Bronze (Senior Men 96 kg): Suresh Kumar Yadav, Snatch 133 kg, C&J 178 kg, Total 311 kg (4 January 2024).
