India won all the seven matches they played in the tournament, which commenced on October 27. After the round-robin league stage, the top four teams qualified for the semifinals.
Sangita Kumari emerged as the top scorer for India, netting a total of six goals throughout the tournament. China forward Jiaqi Zhong was the top scorer overall, scoring seven goals. Salima Tete was awarded as the Player of the Tournament.
Following their gold medal victory, Hockey India announced a cash award of Rs 3 lakh for each player of the Indian team and Rs 1.5 lakh for each member of the support staff.
Odisha Olympian Deep Grace Ekka was the vice-captain of the 20-member Indian women hockey team with goalkeeper Savita Punia as captain. Deep Grace was the only player from Odisha in the Indian women team.
