  4-Nation Hockey: Indian Junior Men finish runners-up

The Indian Junior Men Hockey Team finished runners-up in the 4-Nations Invitational Tournament after suffering a 1-6 drubbing against host Germany in the final in Dusseldorf, Germany today. The lone goal in the final was scored by Sudeep Chirmako.

India qualified for the final by winning two of their three league matches and losing the one. They beat Spain 6-2 and England 4-0, but lost to Germany 2-3.

Three players from Odisha represented the 20-member Indian Team. They were: defender Amandeep Lakra, mid-fielder Sunit Lakra and forward Sudeep Chirmako. Chirmako became top scorer for the Indian team with five goals to his name.

 

Indian team was led by forward Uttam Singh with Boby Singh Dhami as vice-captain. The four-nation tournament was part of preparations for the Indian team ahead of the all-important FIH Hockey Mens Junior World Cup 2023, scheduled to be played in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 5 to 16 December 2023.

Forwards: Araijeet Singh Hundal, Angad Bir Singh, Boby Singh Dhami (VC), Uttam Singh (C), Sudeep Chirmako. Coach: CR Kumar.

August 18: India (Amandeep Lakra 25-PC, Rohit 28-PC, 45-PC, Sudeep Chirmako 35-FG, 58-FG, Boby Singh Dhami 53-FG) beat Spain (Nicolas Alvarez 1-FG, Guiu Corominas 23-FG) 6-2.
August 20: India (Sudeep Chirmako 7-FG, 60-FG) lost to Germany (Michel Struthoff 41-FG, Ben Hasbach 53-FG, Florian Sperling 55-FG) 2-3.
August 21: India (Rajinder Singh 13-PC, Amir Ali 33-FG, Amandeep Lakra 41-PC, Araijeet Singh Hundal 58-FG) beat England 4-0.
August 22 (Final): India (Sudeep Chirmako 22-PC) lost to Germany (Florian Sperling 15-FG, Ben Hasbach 20-FG, Hugo von Montgelas 23-FG, Fabio Seitz 38-FG, Nikas Berendts 41-PC, Paul Glander 43-FG) 1-6.
