Odisha-based SAI canoe athletes bagged three silver medals for the country on the penultimate day of the Junior & U-23 Canoe Sprint Asian Championships at the Rowing & Canoeing Race Course in Samarqand, Uzbekistan today.
With these three silver Odisha canoe athletes have contributed a total five medals to the tally of the country so far. Odisha had contributed one silver and one bronze two days ago.
Among the Odisha medal winners today, Leichonbam Neha Devi captured one silver in C1 junior women 500m event. This was the second medal for Neha Devi, who had also secured silver medal C4 junior women 500m team event earlier on April 27.
SAI-Odisha duo of Khangembam Nanao Meitei and Tomthilnganba Ngashepam claimed one silver medal today in K2 U-23 Mens 500m event. This was also the second medals for Ngashepam who had won one bronze medal in U-23 mixed K2 500m event with Pukhrambam Roji Devi on April 27.
Irom Borish Singh became the fifth medal winner from SAI-Odisha, capturing one silver in K4 junior men 500m event. Other three members of the Indian team were: Nitin Verma, Kannan Koluthadi Regi and Rimson Mairembam.
India has bagged a total of 12 medals in the ongoing Asian championships so far. The 12 medals feature three gold, four silver and five bronze. All the Odisha canoe athletes belong to Sports Authority of India (SAI) National Centre of Excellence, Jagatpur, Cuttack.
