  Natl Fed Cup Jr Athletics: Gold for Jayaram; Silver for Sabita

Odisha bagged one gold and one silver medal on the second day of the 21st National Federation Cup Junior (U-20) Athletics Championship, which is being held at the District Sports Complex Collectorate in Tiruvanamalai, Tamil Nadu from April 28.

Dondapati Mruti Jayaram won the gold medal in mens 100m sprint, clocking 10.55 seconds. Vallipi (Andhra Pradesh) and Kostubh Dcosta (Haryana) settled for the silver and bronze medal with timings of 10.79 and 10.94 seconds respectively.

Mahendra Santa was another Odisha sprinter to compete in the mens 100m event and he finished sixth with a time of 11.09 seconds.
 

The silver medal for Odisha was secured by Sabita Toppo in womens 100m hurdles with a time of 14.34 seconds. The gold and bronze medals were claimed by Unnathi Aiyappa Bolland (Karnataka) and Namayi Ruchitha (Telangana), clocking 14.17 and 14.43 seconds respectively.

Sabita also participated in womens long jump and finished seventh with an effort of 5.50 metre. Both Jayaram and Sabita are trainees of Odisha Reliance Foundation Athletics High Performance Centre, located at Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar.

A total of eight athletes are representing Odisha in this three-day championship, which is also qualifying event for the 20th Asian U-20 Athletics Championships, scheduled to be held in Yecheon, South Korea from 4 to 7 June 2023.
