  Tennis: Rutuparna wins title, Nemah finish runner-up

Experienced Odisha player Rutuparna Choudhury won the doubles title with West Bengal partner Yubrani Banerjee in the KT Global School AITA-OTA Womens 1 Lakh Tennis Tournament, which concluded at KT Global School, Barunei, Khordha, Odisha on 16 June 2023.

Rutuparna and Yubrani beat Bihar opponents Ayushi Singh and Madhavi Singh in the final 6-4, 6-1. Yubrani clinched a double crown in the week-long tournament, winning the singles title as well. In the singles final, top seed Yubrani defeated promising Odisha girl Nemha Sarah Kispotta 6-3, 6-1.

 

A trainee of Bhubaneswar-based Altevol Tennis Academy, Kispotta has been making impressive progress in the national circuit. At the age of 16 years, she has won one of the two finals in AITA womens tournaments she played within three weeks.

Nemah won her maiden AITA womens title at the Gurukul AITA-OTA 1 Lakh Tournament at Gurukul Resorts, Mendhashal, Bhubaneswar, incidentally, defeating Yubrani Banerjee in the summit clash earlier on June 2.

Before losing the final against Yubrani at KT Global School today, Nemah had won 10 matches in a row in AITA tournaments. In her last two tournaments, Nemha reached singles finals after starting her campaign as a qualifier.
