  Pratyasa caps KIUG campaign with 2 gold, 3 silver medals

Odisha and Utkal University swimming sensation Pratyasa Ray capped her glorious campaign in the 3rd Khelo India University Games, winning second gold and fifth individual medal at Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik (SVSP) Indoor Stadium in Greater Noida today.

Bhubaneswar girl Pratyasa captured her second gold in women 50m backstroke with a time of 31.99 seconds. Earlier, she won her first gold in 100m backstroke and one silver each in 200m backstroke, 200m freestyle and 400m freestyle events.

Two universities from Odisha bagged four medals today to take the total for the State to 10, which include three gold, six silver and one bronze. Out of the 10 medals, Utkal has contributed two gold, three silver and one bronze, while Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) has provided one gold and three silver.

 

Besides the gold by Pratyasa, Utkal University garnered another medal today with Abhisekh Dalabehera pocketing bronze in the men 100m sprint with a time of 10.72 seconds at Guru Govind Singh Sports College, Lucknow. Odisha athletes claimed two medals in men 100m sprint with Lalu Prasad Bhoi winning the silver for KIIT, clocking 10.60 seconds.

Women rowing pair of Avinash Kaur and Arunprit Kaur won the second medal of the day for KIIT with a silver in women 2000m W2X event at the Ramgarh Tal in Gorakhpur.

Meanwhile, after reaching semifinals, KIIT mens tennis team lost to Anna University 1-2 at Ekana Sportz City in Lucknow. KIIT will play the bronze medal match against Gujarat University tomorrow.
Sambalpur University men hockey team defeated Bengaluru City University 4-3 today at Guru Govind Singh Sports College, Lucknow to emerge as Pool-B toppers with two wins and qualified for the semifinals.

Odisha woman swimmer Shristi Upadhaya continued to shine for Jadavpur University, winning one silver medal each in women 100m freestyle and 4x100m medley relay and one bronze medal each in 200m individual medley, 4x100m freestyle relay. She ended her campaign with a total of seven medals, which include three gold, two silver and two bronze.
