  Smaraki wins State Women Chess title 10th time

Smaraki Mohanty further boosted her reputation as a leading woman chess player of Odisha by winning the State title for the 10th time overall and eighth time in a row today. Local favourite Smaraki won her 10th crown at the Odisha State Women Chess Championship, which concluded in Kendrapara today.

In the seven-round championship, Smaraki scored six points with five wins and two draws. Cuttack girl Sandeepa Priyadarshi Sahoo finished runner-up with five points. The third and fourth positions also went to Cuttack duo, Pratyasha Jena and Yashita Rout.

 

The top-four finishers qualified to represent Odisha in the 49th National Women Chess Championship, which is set to be held in Gujurat from 30 June to 10 July 2023.

The State Women Chess Championship was organised by Kendrapara District Chess Association (KDCA), under the aegis of All Odisha Chess Association (AOCA). A total of 34 players participated in the two-day championship.

Former Assisant PF Commissioner Sanjay Kumar Rath graced the valedictory ceremony as chief guest. Eminent chess coach Satyaranjan Pattnaik, All India Chess Federation (AICF) Joint-Secretary Ranjan Mohanty and KDCA Secretary Bhabesh Mohanty were present on the occasion.

P Sairupa (Cuttack, 5), 6. Jayalakshmi Sahoo (Cuttack, 5), 7. Rutushree Rutuprava Sahoo (Dhenkanal, 5), 8. Shreesti Shreyasi (Puri, 4.5), 9. Shradha Smaranika Nanda (Cuttack, 4.5), 10. Swetaleena Pattnaik (Cuttack, 4.5).
