  Srabani, Amiya clinch Fed Cup sprint double for Odisha

Odisha bagged four medals, including a sprint double, on the second day of the 26th National Federation Cup Senior Athletics Championships at Birsa Munda Stadium in Ranchi, Jharkhand today. The four medals featured two gold and two bronze.

Olympian Srabani Nanda and National record holder Amiya Kumar Mallick clinched the sprint double by winning gold medal in womens and mens 100m run respectively. Srabani clocked 11.57 seconds, while Amiya did it in 10.31 seconds.

However, neither Srabani nor Amiya could meet the qualifying mark of 11.44 seconds and 10.19 seconds repectively for the Asian Athletics Championship, which scheduled to be held in Thailand from 12 to 16 July 2023.
 

Dondapati Mruty Jayaram of Odisha Reliance Foundation Athletics HPC bagged one bronze medal in mens 100m run with a time of 10.40 seconds. The other bronze medal for Odisha was secured by ORF Athletics HPC high jumper Swadhin Kumar Majhi with a leap of 2.11 metre.

A total of 21 athletes are representing Odisha in the four-day championship. The 21 athletes include 10 male and 11 female. Odisha missed out on another bronze medal as Susmita Tigga finished fourth in womens 3000m steeplechase.

Men (10): Amiya Kumar Mallick (100m, 200m), Dondapati Mruty Jayaram (100m), Lalu Prasad Bhoi (100m), Ashok Dandasena (800m, 1500m), Nikhil Das (High jump), Swadhin Kumar Majhi (High jump), Ranjan Kumar Sahu (Shot put), Kishore Kumar Jena (Javelin), Vikran Malik (Javelin), Jashbir Nayak (Decathlon).
Women (11): Srabani Nanda (100m, 200m), Sukhi Baskey (100m), Madhumita Deb (200m), Laxmipriya Kisan (800m), Pragyan Prasanti Sahu (100m hurdles), Sabita Toppo (100m hurdles), Jauna Murmu (400m hurdles), Puja Behera (3000m steeplechase), Susmita Tigga (3000m steeplechase), Salmi Kispotta (Discus), Purnima Hembram (Heptathlon).
