  Natl Jr Athletics: Medals for Tejaswani, Mery, relay squad

Odisha bagged three medals on the fourth and penaultimate day of the 37th National Junior Athletics Championships at SAI Athletics Stadium in Guwahati, Assam today. The three medals include two gold and one silver.

With the addition of three medals today, the total number of medals for Odisha became 10. The 10 medals include six gold, three silver and one bronze.

Tejaswani Dhal was the star of the day for Odisha, bagging gold medal in girls U-14 (kids) javelin throw event with an effort of 33.60 metre. This is a new event, introduced in the National competition.

Odisha won the other gold medal of the day in U-20 mens 4x100 metre relay with a time of 41.31 seconds.

 

The relay squad, featuring Bhima Sardar, Abhisekh Dalabehera, Lalu Prasad Bhoi and Aryan Ekka, missed the Meet Record by 0.03 second. Kerala team had established the Meet Record of 41.28 seconds in Mangaluru in 2019.

For Lalu Prasad Bhoi, this was the second gold medal of the ongoing National Junior Championship. He had won his first gold in U-20 mens 100 metre sprint earlier on the opening day. That was also the first medal for Odisha in the five-day championship.

The lone silver medal of the day for Odisha was claimed by Merymukta Soreng in U-20 women triple jump with a leap of 12.37 metre. This was the first National medal for Merymukta, who hails from Sambalpur.
