  FAO Inter-Club Futsal: Sports Odisha emerge champs

Sports Odisha emerged champions in the 2nd FAO Inter-Club Futsal Tournament, edging out Ardor Football Academy in the final at Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Cuttack today. Sports Odisha, a team fielded by the State Government, won the final 4-3 in penalty shoot out after play in the regulation time ended in 1-1 draw.

The champion team received a cheque of Rs 15,000, while the runner-up side got Rs 10,000. Being the State champions, Sports Odisha team qualified to participate in the Hero Futsal Club Championship to be conducted by the All India Football Federation.

 

The Inter-Club Futsal Tournament, featuring 10 teams and 23 matches, was organised by Football Association of Odisha (FAO) with the support of Department of Sports & Youth Services, Government of Odisha from November 3.

FAO also organised an Inter-Club Women Futsal League for the first time on November 7 and 8. Four teams participated in this league. Among the four women teams, East Coast Railway emerged champions while OGP Club finished runners-up.

Odisha Police and SAI Training Centre were other two teams in the fray. The champion and runner-up teams received cash prizes of Rs 10,000 and Rs 7,000 respectively. Cuttack District Sports Officer Rashmi Ranjan Samantaray was the chief guest of the prize distribution ceremony.

FAO Secretary Asirbad Behera, Vice-Presidents Bijay Das, Dillip Kumar Sahoo and Hrudaya Ranjan Behera; Treasurer Bhakta Ballav Das, Joint-Secretary Biswa Ranjan Gharei, former international footballers Shradhanjali Samantaray and Rajendra Prasad Singh were present on the occasion.

November 3: Match 1:
SAI Training Centre beat Bidanasi Club 3-1. Match 2: Odisha Police beat KIIT-KISS 5-2. Match 3: Ardor Football Academy beat Bamanda Agragati Club 21-0. Match 4: Sports Odisha beat Radharaman Club 4-1. Match 5: Odisha Police beat Bidanasi Club 4-3.
November 4: Match 6: KIIT-KISS beat Bidanasi Club 5-2. Match 7: Odisha Police beat SAI Training Centre 1-0. Match 8: Ardor Football Academy beat Radharaman Club 7-3. Match 9: SAI Training Centre beat Friends Paradise Club 3-1. Match 10: Sports Odisha beat OGP Club 5-4.
November 5: Match 11: Sports Odisha beat Ardor Football Academy 2-1. Match 12: OGP Club beat Radharaman Club 9-7. Match 13: SAI Training Centre beat KIIT-KISS 2-1. Match 14: OGP Club beat Bamanda Agragati Club 12-1. Match 15: Friends Paradise Club beat KIIT-KISS 5-3.
November 6: Match 16: Radharaman Club beat Bamanda Agragati Club 5-2. Match 17: Friends Paradise Club beat Odisha Police 3-2. Match 18: Ardor Football Academy drew with OGP Club 1-1. Match 19: Sports Odisha beat Bamanda Agragati Club 12-0. Match 20: Friends Paradise Club beat Bidanasi Club (w/o).
November 8: Match 21 (SF): Ardor Football Academy beat Odisha Police 4-2. Match 22 (SF): Sports Odisha beat Friends Paradise Club 9-2. Match 23 (Final): Sports Odisha beat Ardor Football Academy 4-3 in penalty shoot-out (Regulation time 1-1 draw).
