  Natl Open Athletics: Srabani wins 100m gold

Odisha Olympian Srabani Nanda emerged as the fastest woman of the 61st National Open Athletics Championships by winning the 100m gold medal on the second day at Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bangalore today. She won the race in 11.55 seconds.

Himashree Roy (Railways) and Archana S Suseendran (Tamil Nadu) secured the 100m silver and bronze medal, clocking 11.56 and 11.58 seconds respectively. In mens 100m sprint, National Record holder and Odisha ace Amiya Kumar Mallick finished seventh with a timing of 10.72 seconds.

The 100m gold was captured by Elakkiyadasan K (Railways), who clocked 10.37 seconds. Silver and bronze medal in this event went to Harjit Singh (Services) and Siva Kumar B (Railways).

Odisha men 4x100m relay team, featuring Abhijit Sahu, Aryan Ekka, Lalu Prasad Bhoi and Abhinash Sahu, qualified for the final. Odisha Athletics Association has fielded a 14-member State squad in this championships.

Among other Odisha competitors, Purnima Hembram finished fifth in womens heptathlon, mustering 4683 points. Railway trio of Swapna Barman (5798), Sowmiya Murugan (5393) and Sonu Kumari (5132) won the gold, silver and bronze respectively.
