  National Games: Odisha ends campaign with 26 medals

Odisha added three more silver medals to its haul on the penultimate day of the 36th National Games in Ahmedabad, Gujarat today. All three medals were captured in canoeing and kayaking at Sabarmati Riverfront.

With these three medals, Odisha capped its campaign with an all-time highest total of 26 medals, which included four gold, 11 silver and 11 bronze. According to Odisha Olympic Association, the previous all-time highest total was 15 medals.

Canoeing and Kayaking fetched Odisha the highest number of eight medals in the 36th National Games. The eight meedals featured one gold, four silver and three bronze.

 

On the penultimate day, Oinam Bidya Devi secured one silver medal in women K-1 200m sprint with a timing of 49.723 seconds. She also became the most successful Odisha athlet of this National Games, pockeing one gold, one silver and one bronze.

Tomthilnganba Ngashepam also claimed one silver medal in men K-1 200m sprint, clocking 39.888 seconds. The third silver medal of the day was captured by Leichongbam Neha Devi in women C-1 200m sprint, clocing 55.150 seconds.

The State canoeing and kayaking squad was accompanied by Laishram Johnson Singh, Laishram Bishesori Devi, Prithviraj Shinde and Rajkumar Nishad. Rowing was the second highest medal-fetching discipline for Odisha with a total of six medals, which included one gold, three silver and two bronze.

Odisha medal winners will be eligible to get cash awards from Odisha Olympic Association. As per the OAA announcement earlier on September 28, gold, silver and bronze medalists in team events will be given Rs 3 lakh, Rs 2 lakh and Rs 1 lakh respectively. In individual events, Rs 75,000, Rs 50,000 and Rs 25,000 will be given for gold, silver and bronze respectively.
