Odisha girls team won silver medal by finishing runners-up in the Junior (U-18) National Rugby 7s Championship, which concluded at Pataliputra Sports Complex in Patna today. In the girls final, host Bihar beat Odisha 24-7 to bag the gold medal.
Bihar clinched a double as their boys team also won the gold medal, defeating Rajasthan in the title clash 17-5. Earlier in the girls semifinals, Bihar blanked West Bengal 38-0, while Odisha prevailed over Maharashtra 17-12.
Odisha girls team, led by Tarulata Naik, reached quarterfinals, trouncing Rajasthan 38-0. Odisha boys, captained by Ganesh Dhangada Majhi, bowed out in the quarterfinals, losing to Maharashtra 7-12. Former international Muna Murmu accompanied the Odisha teams as coach.
