  Hima stuns Dutee, Srabani for Sr Natl 100m gold

Assam star Hima Das stunned Odisha counterparts Dutee Chand and Srabani Nanda to win the women 100m gold medal on the second day of the 61st National Inter-State Senior Athletics Championships at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai, Tamil Nadu today.

Hima won the gold with the second fastest sprint by an Indian woman this year, clocking 11.43 seconds. Not been beaten over the distance this year, Dutee settled for silver medal with a timing of 11.44 seconds while Srabani took the bronze, clocking 11.53 seconds.

As many as 13 athletes from Odisha registered their entries for the five-day championship, which commenced on June 10. But barring Dutee and Srabani, no other Odisha athlete could win a medal.

National Record holder Amiya Kumar Mallick failed to qualify for the mens 100m final, finishing fouth in Preliminary Heat-5 and fifth in Semifinal Heat-3 with timing of 10.99 and 10.81 seconds respectively.

His junior Statemate Abhinash Sahu performed better than him, finishing second in Preliminary Heat-4 and fourth in Semifinal Heat-1, clocking 10.95 and 10.82 seconds respectively. However, Abhinash too missed out on a berth in the final.

Kishore Kumar Jena finished sixth in mens javelin throw with an effort of 77.89 meter. Other Odisha athletes in the fray included: Binati Behera, Jauna Murmu, Manisha Merel, Aryan Ekka, Ashok Dandasena, Swadhin Kumar Majhi, Lalu Prasad Bhoi and Abhijit Sahu.
