  KIYG Weightliging: Kuldeep gets gold, Punit bags silver

Weightlifters have won two medals for Odisha so far in the ongoing 4th Khelo India Youth Games, which is being conducted in Panchkula, Haryana from 4 June 2022. The two medals include one gold and one silver.

Kuldeep Sahu won the gold medal in the mens 73kg category with a total lift of 269kg on June 7. He lifted 119kg in snatch and 150kg in clean & jerk. This was first medal for Odisha in current edition of the Khelo India Youth Games.

 

This was also the second Khelo India Youth Games gold medal for Berhampur lifter Kuldeep, who had bagged his first in the last edition of the Games in Guwahati, Assam in 2020. He had competed in U-17 boys 67kg category in the previous edition.

Punit Chandra Sahu secured the silver medal by finishing second in the mens 96kg category with a total lift of 278kg on June 8. His efforts featured 115kg in snatch and 163kg in clean & jerk.

Punit is a BCom student of KIIT University and trains at Utkal Karate School, Bhubaneswar. He had bagged bronze medal in the 2nd Khelo India University Games in Bengaluru earlier this year.
