  Odisha para fencers win Commonwealth medals

A 10-member Indian para-fencing squad, including three from Odisha, bagged a total of five medals in the Commonwealth Fencing Championship, which was held in London, England from 10 to 12 August 2022. The five medals featured three silver and two bronze.

All three Odisha para-fencers secured medals for the country. Among the three, Malti Panaure settled for silver medal in women individual foil event after losing to Gemma Collis of Wales 4-15 in the final on August 11.

Earlier in the semifinals, Malti beat fellow Indian Rekha Tanwar 15-12. A total of five para-fencers participated in this event.

 

Odisha duo Rakhal Kumar Sethy and V Ramesh Rao were part of the four-member Indian team that also claimed silver medal in men epee team event after going down to England 37-45 in the final on August 12.

England and India were the only two participating nations in this event. Parveen and Rajhavendra were other two member of the Indian team.

The three Odisha medalists were accorded a warm felicitation by Para Sports Association of Odisha (PSAO) in Bhubaneswar today. PSAO President Kamala Kanta Rath, Vice-president Chitta Ranjan Bairisal and Treasurer Sunil Pradhan were present in the felicitation function.
