  Dutee, Aryan emerge best athletes in State Meet

Double Olympian Dutee Chand and young Bhubaneswar sprinter Aryan Ekka were crowned as the best female and male athlete respectively in the 68th Odisha State Athletics Championship, which concluded at KIIT & KISS Athletics Stadium in Bhubaneswar today.

Dutee created New Meet Record in women 200m sprint, clocking 23.7 seconds. She bettered the previous record of 24.2 seconds. Representing KIIT, Dutee also bagged a double, winning both the 100m and 200m gold medals.

Aryan, a trainee of Reliance Foundation Odisha Athletics High Performance Centre, also clinched a double, winning both the U-20 boys 100m and 200m gold medals with New Meet Records.

He rewrote the 200m meet record with a timing of 22.0 seconds and erased the previous record of 22.1 seconds today. He had broken the 100m meet record earlier on April 9.

 

Cuttack emerged overall champions with 579 points, while Bhubaneswar finished runners-up with 260 points. The concluding day produced one New State Record and four New Meet Records.

Ashok Dandasena of Odisha Police was the real star of the four-day championship, bagging two gold medals in mens 5000m and 10000m run with New State Records in both. Today, he eclipsed the 10000m previous record of 31:36.0s, clocking 31:24.6s.

Anshika Routray and Mari Mukta Soreng rewrote the other two New Meet Records of the final day. Anshika, daughter of Olympian Anuradha Biswal, created the NMR in U-18 girls shot put with a throw of 11.75 meter, which is 0.32m better than previous record of 11.43m. Mari Mukta achieved the NMR in U-20 girls triple jump with a leap of 11.49m, bettering the previous record of 11.40m.

KIIT & KISS founder Dr Achyuta Samanta, Odisha Athletic Association president G Srinivas Patnaik, secretary Asirbad Behera, Odisha Olympic Association secretary Avijit Paul, Bhubaneswar Mayor Sulochana Das and Olympian Anuradha Biswal were present at the closing ceremony.
