  Four picked for Wheelchair Fencing World Cup

Four players from Odisha, including one women, have been selected in the 18-member Indian squad for one of the five IWAS Wheelchair Fencing World Cup events, scheduled to be held in Chon Buri, Thailand from 19 to 22 May 2022.

According to Para Sports Association of Odisha (PSAO), the four wheelchair fencers are: Pujaswini Nayak, V Ramesh Rao, Rakhal Kumar Sethy and Prafulla Kumar Khandayatray. Among the four, Khandayatray would make his international debut.

Before the World Cup, a preparatory camp for the Indian squad would be held at Karan Stadium in Karnal, Haryan. PSAO president Kamala Kanta Rath and secretary Lokanath Mohanty have wished success to the players.

Organised by International Wheelchair and Amputee Sports Federation (IWAS) Wheelchair Fencing, year 2022 will feature five World Cups. The first World Cup was held in in Sao Paulo in Brazil from April 14 to 17. The World Cup in Chon Buri would be the second of the series.

Warsaw, Poland would play host to the third World Cup competition from July 7 to 10. The fourth World Cup would take place in Pisa, Italy from September 22 to 25, followed by the fifth and last World Cup in Eger, Hungary form November 16 to 20.
