  Yet another double crown for Kabir Hans

Odisha No 1 Kabir Hans added yet another double crown to his trophy cabinet, winning both the singles and doubles titles in the Major Sandeep Mohapatra Memorial AITA-OTA Mens 1 Lac Tennis Tournament which concluded at Gurukul Tennis Complex, Mendhasal, Bhubaneswar today.

In the singles final, Kabir came back from a set down to defeat Guhan Rajan from Tamil Nadu 3-6, 6-1, 6-4. In the doubles final, Kabir, partnering with Oges Theyjo Jaya Prakash from Tamil Nadu, beat Sheikh Md Iftikhar (Assam) and partner Abhinansu Borthakur (WB) 6-4, 6-1.

 

Singles champion Kabir won the trophy and a cash prize of Rs12 500, while runner-up Rajan received a trophy and a cash prize of Rs 8,400. Singles champion and runner-up also gained 20 and 15 AITA ranking points respectively.

Around 50 players from 13 states of India participated in the tournament. Jagadanada Mahapatra, the main sponsor of the tournament and father of Late Major Sandeep Mahapatra and Dr Rajshri Nayak (Red IG CRPF) distributed the trophies and prize money to the finalist at the presentation ceremony.

Gurukul Resorts Director Dr Pratap Kumar Pradhan, PNB Retd DGM Pradeep Kumar Pradhan, Odisha Tennis Association Executive Manager and Tournament Director Sambit Pattnaik, and Tournament Referee Jatin Batsya were present on the occasion.
