  Odisha crash out with successive innings defeat

Odisha crashed out of the Ranji Trophy Championship, suffering successive innings defeat in Elite Group-D league. In their third and last league match, Odisha went down to Mumbai by an innings and 108 runs at Narendra Modi Stadium B Ground, Motera in Ahmedabad on the fourth and last day today.

Ealier, after drawing their opening match against Goa, Odisha had lost to Saurashtra by an innings and 131 runs in their second match. Opting to bat against Mumbai, Odisha rode on a polished knock of 89 (213 balls, 11x4) by in-form opener Shantanu Mishra to made a modest total of 284.

In reply, Mumbai declared at 532 for nine to take a first-innings lead of 348 runs. Sarfaraz Khan (165) and Armaan Jaffer (125) set the platform for the emphatic Mumbai win, hitting a century each. Rajesh Mohanty was most successful Odisha bowler, taking three wickets for 123 runs.

Needing 349 runs to force Mumbai again, Odisha suffered the innings defeat as they folded up for 140 in their second innings. Amidst the crushing defeat, Odisha allrounder Abhishek Raut provided some consolation, slamming 59 (71 balls, 9x4) in the second innings. Odisha medium pacer Prasanta Rana made First-Class debut in this match.
