  KI Women Hockey League: Mixed luck for Odisha teams

Two Odisha teams Odisha Naval Tata Hockey High Performance Centre and Sports Hostel Bhubaneswar put up modest performance in the 1st Khelo India U-21 Women Hockey League, which concluded at Major Dhyan Chand Hockey Stadium in New Delhi today.

Odisha Naval Tata Hockey HPC finished third in Pool A with nine points from six matches, wining and losing three matches each. Hockey India Junior Women team topped Pool A with six wins and full 18 points, while Sports Authority of India-B finished second with 13 points.

 

In Pool B, Sports Hostel, Bhubaneswar ended campaign with fifth place, garnering six points from six matches. They won two and lost four. Haryana Hockey Academy (16 points), Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy (12 points) and Sports Authority of India-A (11 points) secured the top three positions in this pool.

The tournament was formally inaugurated by Union Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Anurag Singh Thakur, in the presence of Minister of STate for Youth Affairs & Sports Nishith Pramanik and Indian Olympic Association President Narendra Dhruv Batra. The League carries a cash prize of Rs 30 lakh for the winners.

The tournament was designed by Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports to give emerging talent an additional opportunity to gain competitive exposure. The first of the three-phase League was held in Delhi. The second and third phase would take place at SAI Centre in Lucknow and Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar next year.

December 16: Sports Hostel, Bhubaneswar (Neha Lakra 5-FG, 52-PS; Rashmi Kishan 34-PC, Anjela Toppo 39-PC, 49-PC; Nitu Lakra 42-PC, Nimabati Singh 55-PC) beat Delhi Hockey (Preeti 50-FG) 7-1.

December 19: Sports Hostel, Bhubaneswar lost to Pritam Siwach Hockey Academy, Sonepat (Kanika Siwach 7-FG) 0-1.
December 20: Sports Hostel, Bhubaneswar (Sunita Xaxa 50-FG, Mukta Jojo 59-PC) beat Jai Bharat Hockey Academy 2-0.
