Odisha boys and Bihar girls were crowned champions in the 6th Junior (U-18) National Rugby 7s Championship, which concluded KIIT Rugby Stadium in Bhubaneswar today. In the finals, Odisha boys beat Maharashtra 14-12, while Bihar girls thrashed Delhi 39-0.
Odisha girls and Bihar boys settled with bronze medal, getting the better of Maharashtra 43-5 and West Bengal 31-5 respectively. Earlier in the semifinals, Odisha boys edged out Bihar 12-10, while Odisha girls went down fighting to Bihar 5-7.
Odisha Sports Department Commissioner-cum-Secretary R Vineel Krishna and his wife SV Chandana handed over the trophies at the closing ceremony. Actor and Rugby India Board Member Rahul Bose, Odisha Rugby Football Association President Priyadarshi Mishra, Secretary Upendra Kumar Mohanty and KIIT Sports Director Gaganendu Dash were present on the occasion.

In the quarterfinals, Odisha boys thrashed Jharkhand 58-5, while Odisha girls blanked Rajasthan 52-0. Earlier in the pre-quarterfinals, Odisha boys trounced Jammus & Kashmir 40-0, while the girls drubbed Tamil Nadu 43-0. Odisha boys and girls emerged respective pool toppers with two wins each to progress to the pre-quarterfinals earlier on the opening day.
Led by Makaranda Pradhan, Odisha boys team beat Madhya Pradesh 50-0 and Chandigarh 47-0 in Pool C. Odisha girls team, captained by Mama Naik, prevailed over Pondicherry 53-0 and Chhattisgarh 40-0 to finished at the top of Pool E.
The two-day championship was organised by Rugby India, Odisha Rugby Football Association (ORFA), Department of Sports & Youth Services, Government of Odisha and KIIT Deemed to be University. As many as 24 boys teams and 21 girls teams are participating in this championship.
