A private badminton coaching and training centre was launced at Biju Patnaik Indoor Stadium, Christ College, Cuttack today. Former State badminton champion Asim Das inaugurated the centre, which has been named as Badminton Coaching & Training Centre of Excellence.

The centre, featuring four synthetic indoor courts, is a joint-venture of Christ College and former national-level badminton player Kamal Das. Leading shuttlers of the state were present at the launching function of the centre.  

According to centre owner and chief coach Kamal Das grooming youngsters into accomplished shuttlers is the main motto of the centre. However, anyone can play by paying membership fees.

The centre also has four coaches, namely Sumit Nayak, Reeta Dash, Pramod Rana and K Sanjay Kumar. “Coaching and training will be available on fitness and skill development for both primary and advance level players,” said Das, who has taken the indoor badminton courts on lease for 25 years.

“Afternoon and evening sessions will be reserved for youngsters. Others can use the facility during day time,’’ added Das, who also runs a coaching centre at Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Cuttack, under the Pay-&-Play Scheme of the Department of Sports & Youth Services, Government of Odisha.
