  DSYS felicitates 237 sportspersons with cash awards

Department of Sports and Youth Services, Government of Odisha, today felicitated 237 sportspersons from across the state with cash awards in recognition of their outstanding performance at the national and international level competitions. Sports Minister Tusharkanti Behera handed over cash prizes in the presence of DSYS Commmissioner-cum-Secretary R Vineel Krishna at the Department Complex in Bhubaneswar.

A total of Rs 1 crore, 8 lakh and 83 thousand was awarded across various sports disciplines. Out of a total of 237 sportspersons awarded cash prizes, 172 were in the general category, while 65 were in the category of Persons with Disabilities (PWD).

 

Congratulating the athletes present and those joined virtually, Sports Minister said, “The cash award is in recognition of your hard-work and outstanding achievement. You all are role models for the younger generation of sports and I wish you greater laurels in your sporting journey ahead.”

The annual cash award scheme of the Sports Department is aimed at encouraging and motivating the players and inspiring them for higher achievements. The full list of 237 sportspersons, who received or would receive cash awards, has not been disclosed by the DSYS.

LIST OF SPORTSPERSONS WHO PERSONALLY RECEIVED CASH AWARDS ON 17 DEC 2021:
1. Sabita Toppo (Athletics) Rs 40,000 (For gold medal at the 35th National Junior Athletics Championship).
2. Dhanmati Xess (Athletics) Rs 44,000 (For silver medal at the 35th National Junior Athletics Championship).
3. Yashita Rout (Chess) Rs 72,000 (For gold medal at the 8th National School Chess Championship).
4. Sasmita Nath Shrama (Kho-kho) Rs 62,500 (For gold medal at the 13th South Asian Games).
5. Dumuni Marandi (Rugby) Rs 1,12,000 (For gold medal at the All India Women Rugby Championship).
6. Sumitra Nayak (Rugby) Rs 1,24,000 (For gold medal at the All India Inter-University Championship).
7. Rakhal Sethy (Para-fening) Rs 1,55,000 (For gold medal at the 13th National Wheelchair Fencing Championship).
8. V Ramesh Rao (Para-fening) Rs 1,10,000 (For gold medal at the 13th National Wheelchair Fencing Championship).
9. Sheela Mantri (Para-fening) Rs 2,05,000 (For gold medal at the 12th National Wheelchair Championship).
10. Jabamani Tudu (Football) Rs 50,000 (For gold medal at the 13th South Asian Games).
11. Malati Panure (Para-fening) Rs 2,90,000 (For two gold medals at the 13th National Wheelchair Championship).
12. Fulamani Palaya (Archery) Rs 1,66,000 (For two gold medals at the 64th National School Archery Championship).
13. Tapan Mohanty (Gymnastics) Rs 67,000 (For gold medal at the 55th Junior Artistic National Gymnastics Championship).
14. Sanjukta Dundung (Rowing) Rs 1,35,000 (For one gold medal each at the 22nd Open Sprint National Championship and 4th Indoor National Championship).
15. Fulamani Xaxa (Kayaking & Canoeing) Rs 52,000 (For one gold medals each at the 30th National Jr Championship in K2 1000m and K2 500m).
