  Odisha to host Santosh Trophy East Zone matches

Football Association of Odisha (FAO), in association with Department of Sports & Youth Services, Government of Odisha, would play host to the East Zone Qualifiers (Group A) of the Santosh Trophy 2021-22 at Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar from 1 to 5 December 2021.

Odisha, Bihar and Jharkhand would compete in the East Zone Qualifiers for a ticket to the final round of the Santosh Trophy 2021-22, the Mens National Football Championship of India.

A six-week-long preparatory-cum-trial camp for the Odisha Santosh Trophy team has commenced at Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar. As many as 48 players joined the camp.


As part of preparation, FAO has arranged three practice matches at Kalinga Stadium. Odisha would play two practice matches against Sikkim on November 11 and 16 and one against Indian Arrows on November 13.

Meanwhile, FAO has appointed AFC-A license coach Salim Akbar Pathan as the Head Coach of the State Senior Men Team for Santosh Trophy. Pathan earlier worked as the assistant coach of ISL team Chennaiyin FC and Maharashtra junior team.

According to FAO Secretary Asirbad Behera the contract of Head Coach Salim Pathan would be extended if the State team performed upto expectations.

"He has been appointed for the Santosh Trophy East Zone Qualifiers. We will assess his performance and take a decision about extending his contract," he said.

The the FAO Secretary also thanked Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Sports Minister Tusharkanti Behera and Sports Secretary R Vineel Krishna for providing all possible support for promotion of football in the State.
