  AITA Super Series double crown for Debasis Sahoo

Top-rated Odisha junior tennis player Debasis Sahoo clinched a double crown by winning both the U-16 boys singles and doubles titles in the AITA Super Series Tournament at Joygaon Tennis Academy in Jhajjar, Haryana yesterday.

Bhubaneswar boy Debasis won the singles title, defeating Hitesh Chauhan of Punjab in the final 6-4, 6-4. In doubles summit clash, Debasis and Hitesh Chauhan fought back from a set down to beat Delhi-Haryana combination of Arjun Pandit and Deepam Mallick 4-6, 6-3, 10-5 in super tie-breaker.

Earlier on September 10, Debasis finished U-16 boys doubles runners-up in the AITA Super Series Tournament at the same venue. Before moving to Jhajjar, he finished runner-up both in U-16 boys singles and doubles at the OIL-AITA Super Series Tournament, which concluded in Guwahati on September 3.

Debasis was the first tennis player of Odisha, selected for Junior Road to Wimbledon in U-14 boys event. But due to COVID-19 pandemic, the tournament was cancelled. Currently Debasis is holding No 18 position in the AITA National U-16 boys rankings.

 

Debasis is working hard under the tutelage of coach Farhan Ali and aims to make it to the Indian U-16 squad for the Junior Davis Cup Tournament 2022.

SOHINI WINS SS DOUBLES TITLE: Meanwhile, Odisha girl Sohini Mohanty won the AITA Super Series U-14 doubles title with Maharashtra partner Nainika Reddy at Sania Mirza Tennis Academy in Hyderabad yesterday.
