Carmela Barla won the first medal for Odisha in the 12th National Youth (Under-18) Athletics Championship by finishing second in girls` javelin throw at Panjim in Goa today. A student of St Mery’s High School in Sundargarh district, Carmela hurled the spear to a distance of 35.53 metres to settle with the silver medal.
An eight-member squad is representing Odisha in the three-day championsip.

ODISHA SQUAD:
Boys: Binkash Barwa (400m hurdles), Kamakshya Prasad Nayak (200m sprint).
Girls: Sanjukta Mallick (100m, 200m), Tapati Sahoo (100m, 200m), Samsad Ara Begum (3,000m run), Salmi Kispotta (discus), Carmela Barla (javelin), Jasmi Kisku (heptathlon).
